FAQ

GENERAL

What is a tincture?

A tincture is an old form of medicine, one of the oldest we know of. Tinctures are made by soaking medicinal plants in alcohol; known as a maceration.  The solvent action of the alcohol will bind to the medicinal compounds and pull them out of the plant. What you are left with is the medicinal compounds suspended in the liquid alcohol. A concentrated form of plant medicine to be taken in small amounts. Read more about tinctures HERE

How do I use tinctures?

There are a few different ways to use tinctures; and it is best to follow the dosage directions on the bottle. Some people prefer to take the liquid straight into the mouth; while others prefer to dilute the flavour in water or juice.

How long will it take to feel effects?

This will vary from person to person and is influenced by your unique state of health. Some formulas like, Unwind; will have rapid tangible results in the moment. Other formulas like Daily Detox, will have a more subtle action that builds over time. Each person will have a different experience and that's a beautiful part about herbal medicine!

Remember that consistency is key to long term success and achieving your health goals. Herbal medicine does not provide the “quick fix” that some pharmaceuticals do. The goal of herbs is to address the root cause of illness and dis-ease; a process that can take time and patience.

How often do I use tinctures?

Always follow the directions on the tincture label, different tinctures have different dosages. We are more than happy to answer any questions you may have about dosing, timelines and anything else you can think of! Remember that consistency is key

What is the difference between tinctures and essential oils?

There is a huge difference between tinctures and essential oils! Essential oils are made through a process of distillation; specifically focused on extracting & concentrating the Volatile Oil components of a plant. These are very potent sometimes toxic compounds that are meant for external use only. They require a very large amount of plant material to yield a small amount of oil. For example, it takes 200lb of lavender to make 1lb of lavender essential oil.

Tinctures do have essential oils in them, however it is much less and a safer amount to consume. Tinctures will also have many of the other medicinal components of the plant that are not Volatile oils, making them a more well rounded extraction.

When are tinctures not good for someone?

Tinctures should not be used if you have a history of addiction or alcoholism. Other types of herbal preparations will be better suited to you. Book a consultation or a discovery call to learn more about how we can customize your herbal regimen.

As always, we suggest that you consult your doctor or health care practitioner if you are taking prescription medication to ensure there are no interactions.

Can you take different formulas at the same time?

Yes you can. There is no magic number for how many formulas you can take at once. We are complex creatures and we often require multiple formulas to fully address our health concerns. However; you don't want to overload your system with herbs & supplements. Taking too many herbs can overwhelm your body and you may not see the progress you are wishing for. Our suggestion is to tackle one health issue at a time. For example if you have digestive and hormonal issues; start treating with digestion formulas and create a treatment plan to address the hormones when you have reached your digestive goals.
